As a New Border Reopened Ceremony is Held in Humera to Celebrate

A ceremony to celebrate people to people relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea takes place in Humera city today January 10, 2019.

According to a report from Fana Broadcasting Corporate, thousands of people, high-level officials including Debretsion G/Michael, President of Tigray region, & members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) are attending the ceremony.

Three days ago, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) and Isaias Afeworki, president of the state of Eritrea re-opened Humera-Omhajer Border, the third border connecting the people of the two countries.

On September 11, a day which Ethiopian New Year is celebrated, leaders of the two countries reopened Borders between the two Nations.

People from the two nations were freely cross borders after 20 years of closure.

Recent reports show that a few weeks ago, Eritrea has closed the Zalambessa – Assab –border. Commenting on the issue, Dr. Debretsion stated that he has learned from the Eritrean president that the reason the border is closed was to put in place formal customs procedures and it will soon be opened.
