Ethiopia to Free Political Prisoners


Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn announced today that the gov’t has given a pardon to all political prisoners in the country.

He further disclosed “ Maikelawi ”the Central Investigation Center has been closed and would be turned into a museum.


PM Hailemariam said the political prisoners were released to provide a better and favorable condition for political dialogue and to widen democratic forum in the country. Prime Minister Hailemariam stated that another investigation institute that complies with international standards would be opened.

Some metropolitans expressed their hope that several political prisoners including Dr. Merera Gudina, Ato Eskinder Nega, and many journalists would be out of prison.
