One Dead, Seven Hurt in Wolkite Conflict
One person has been killed and seven others injured in a conflict happened in Wolkite town of the Gurage zone, Southern Nations and Nationalities and Peoples regional state, on Wednesday, said Fana Broadcasting Corporate.
Several homes, cars, and businesses were damaged burning by fire and the city was seen as unstable, according to Fetu Seman, Administrator of the zone.
Now security forces and elders of the local residents are working together to restore the peace and stability of the town, he added.
The SNNP regional state police commissioner has outline “a clash between fans of two football clubs” as the causes that motivate these groups to wreak this violence, Fana wrote.
There was also minor conflict at the celebration of Fiche Chambalala, New Year Festival of the Sidama people, on June 12, 2018, in Hawassa City, the capital of SNNP regional state, according to the commission.
However, police didn’t mention the impact and damage of the conflict happened in Hawassa.
