The town sprawls on a wide basin surrounded by granitic mountains on all sides. It serves as the capital of the Anseba region and is home to the Bilen people.

One must now acquire permission before being allowed to travel there. The park is flourishing with wildlife and there are an estimated 325 different species of fish in the waters surrounding the region.
