Volkswagen Expressed Interest to Invest Ethiopia
German giant automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is set to construct an assembly plant in Ethiopia.
Prime minister Abiy Ahmed, (PhD) host executives of Volkswagen yesterday in his office in Addis Ababa.
During their discussion representatives of the company said that the company is conducting a study and ready to invest in Ethiopia if suitable conditions are fulfilled.
The prime minister in his part said that the country would provide the necessary support for the automobile industry.
Months ago the German Development Cooperation Minister, met with Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation and held discussions.
After the meeting, Gerd Muller, German Development Cooperation Minister said “Volkswagen will start assembling cars in Ethiopia shortly,”
Established on 28 May 1937 by the German Labour Front and headquartered in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen is one of the worlds known car brand.
Minister Gerd Muller has also indicated that Deutsche Telekom of Germany is interested in buying shares in Ethiopia’s government monopoly Ethio Telecom.
Ethiopia the second populist African nations one of the highest car importer in the country.
